Abstract

The ministry of the Chaplin in the Hospital environment cannot be over emphasized as the patient, patient care givers and the entire hospital staff need the re-assuring services from someone considered ‘to be closer’ to God (Jesus Christ) in His healing and Shepherding ministry. Over the years the responsibilities of health care ministry has been co administered by the health personnel and pastoral ministry personnel. In the last decades in particular, hospital chaplaincy is becoming a professional discipline which operate as a multi faith referral services in the world, Africa and Cameroon in particular drawing services from clergy and trained theologians in some cases. This paper sought to suggest a curriculum for hospital chaplains for holistic healing. It is qualitative in methodology. It is advocating for a holistic curriculum (ministry) whereby every hospital chaplain is expected to carry the following responsibilities:

Morning and evening devotion which will include prayers and scriptural reading-this should be as short as possible; Bible studies and retreats to be carried out on a day set aside and time should be well managed; Counseling- this can be done one on one or in groups depending on the circumstance; Outdoor activities - like sports, playing of cards and other games, discussions and film show-this will help distract patients and care givers and give them time to relax.; Reading of educational materials-educational materials can be given to patients and caregivers and even the staff of the hospital; visitations among others.
