Abstract

This paper discussed application of subsidy funds to address the major problems facing universal Basic Education Programme in Nigeria. Secondary data were employed in the paper. The data were collected from published, unpublished papers, national dailies, articles and reference materials. The paper concluded that subsidy funds can be used to address the problems of under-funding, shortage of professional teachers, infrastructural facilities deficit, shortage of learning materials, improve capacity development programme and teachers’ motivation. The paper recommended that the government should set up of committee to handle the disbursement of the funds in the Universal Basic Education Programme in Nigeria.
